2026 Winter Awards

The Penny W. Stamps School of Art & Design is delighted to announce the names of the Stamps students who are recipients of the 2026 Winter Awards. This recognition honors students based on a wide range of criteria, including their academic achievements and creative excellence. These awards reflect not only their talent and dedication, but also the creativity, perseverance, and passion they bring to our community each day. We are grateful to Nooshin Hakim Javadi, John Marshall, and Franc Nunoo-Quarcoo, who served on the faculty review committee for these awards.

Recipients for BA Senior Studio Awards, Integrative Project Awards, and the Integrative Project Written Thesis Award were selected by Stamps faculty in recognition of work on culminating senior projects.

Congratulations to our 2026 award recipients!

Anna Bychinsky Award for Excellence in Visual Arts

  • Katja Honkanen
Expressive students laughing and talking amongst one another in a school hallway, with lockers decorated. Among the students, there is a dark and looming figure-head attached to a snake neck listening into one of the groups of students' conversations. Unlike the students' expressions, the figure-head attached to the snake neck's expression is more serious and intent on eavesdropping into a conversation.

On the right side of the image is a Hua Mo sculpture. The sculpture sits on a stainless steel frame, with its main body made of dough. It incorporates elements not traditionally part of Hua Mo, such as plastic wheat stalks, toy cars, and a music box on top. From afar, the sculpture resembles a traditional Hua Mo, but closer inspection reveals its fusion with modern components. On the left side of the image, a video plays on a television set, with a pink glow emanating from behind it. In front of the video, seating is formed by stacked printed flour sacks.

A ceramic vase with a rounded, slightly tapered form is shown against a plain white background. The surface is coated in a mottled patina-green glaze with variations of turquoise and earthy brown. Twelve small sculpted hands protrude from the sides of the vessel in different orientations—some open, some curved, some reaching outward, creating a playful, yet slightly surreal appearance. The glaze pools in the creases of the hands and along the vessel’s surface, giving the piece an aged, weathered look.
