2025 Stamps Commencement Awards

On Friday, May 2, students in the Stamps graduating class of 2025 were recognized for academic and creative achievements at the Stamps Commencement Celebration. Congratulations to the graduate and undergraduate honorees!

MFA Thesis Exhibition Award

The MFA Thesis Exhibition Award recognizes outstanding creative work, as evidenced in the MFA thesis exhibition.

The MFA Thesis Exhibition Jury’s Distinction Award recognizes outstanding creative work in the MFA thesis exhibition, as selected by a panel of jurors.

Summa Cum Laude Honors

Students earn the summa cum laude distinction when their academic performance and cumulative grade point average places them in the top three percent of the graduating class.

Phi Beta Kappa

Phi Beta Kappa is America’s most prestigious honor society. Through a highly selective, merit-based invitation process, Phi Beta Kappa honors the best and brightest liberal arts and sciences undergraduates from 293 top schools across the nation.

Candy R. Wei Prize for International Study

This award was created in memory of art and design student Candy Wei. It is awarded through a juried competition recognizing seniors who best demonstrate how their international study experience changed or influenced their work as artists or designers.

Integrative Project Award 

For the Integrative Project Award, Stamps faculty choose two students from each class section to receive special recognition for the superior quality of their projects. The projects are judged throughout their process — developing and researching the concept, testing and prototyping materials, making and remaking, critiquing and revising, finishing, and installing.

The BA Senior Studio Award

This award recognizes a student who is deemed to have the best BA project in their graduating class.

The Integrative Project Written Thesis Award 

This award recognizes the superior quality of the written portion of a student’s Integrative Project thesis, judged on the overall excellence of the written work in research and composition.

The Gorman Award

This award is given to a graduating senior who has excelled in scholarship, service, leadership, and creative work not only during their senior year but throughout their undergraduate study at Stamps.

2025 Big Idea Award

In memory of alumna Penny W. Stamps and with generous support from the Stamps Family, friends, and other community supporters, the Big Idea Award provides $25,000 to a Stamps senior or team to help launch a major, ambitious project after graduation — a project that calls on the student or team to commit their moral and intellectual capital to their Big Idea.
