Created by performance artist and Stamps Assistant Professor Quinn Alexandria Hunter, Parable of the Now is an afternoon of performances and readings intended to hold space as we grapple with change in the wake of the 2024 general election. This happening is centered around the November 6, 2024, entry in Octavia Butler’s Parable of the Sower that coincides with the day after a general election in the book and the day after our own 2024 general election. Performances will take place every hour, punctuated by reading chapters from the book as we lead up to the final reading of the November 6 chapter at 7 p.m.
Parable of the Sower is the Stamps Common Read selection for this academic year. If you would like a free copy of the book, stop by the Stamps Main Office on the second floor of the Art & Architecture Building to get the book, a sticker, and a bookmark. You can also access a digital or audio copy of the book. Attendees will receive free prints, tote bags, and books while supplies last.
Parable of the Now is presented by the Institute for the Humanities in collaboration with Harlan Hatcher Graduate Library, the U‑M Arts Initiative, and Stamps School of Art and Design.
