Alice Raw­sthorn is an award-win­ning design critic and the author of the crit­i­cally acclaimed books Design as an Atti­tude and Hello World: Where Design Meets Life. Her weekly design col­umn for The New York Times was syn­di­cated world­wide for more than a decade. Raw­sthorn speaks about design at major global events includ­ing TED Con­fer­ences and the World Eco­nomic Forum in Davos. Born in Man­ches­ter and based in Lon­don, Raw­sthorn is chair of the boards of trustees at Chisen­hale Gallery in Lon­don, the con­tem­po­rary dance group Michael Clark Com­pany, and The Hep­worth Wake­field gallery in York­shire, Eng­land. A found­ing mem­ber of the Writ­ers for Lib­erty cam­paign to cham­pion human rights and free­doms, Raw­sthorn has been awarded an Order of the British Empire for ser­vices to design and the arts. As Paola Antonelli, senior cura­tor of archi­tec­ture and design at the Museum of Mod­ern Art in New York, said: Alice Raw­sthorn is the one and only — the best design critic in the world.”
