Physical Computing
ARTDES 257.001, Winter 2027
Credit Hours: 3
Semester: Winter 2027
Prerequisites: All OF THE FOLLOWING: ARTDES 120: Studio: 3D, ARTDES 125: Studio: 4D, ARTDES 239: Creative Programming.
Description: Physical Computing explores the interaction between the physical world and digital systems. Students learn how to create interactive systems by combining sensors, microcontrollers (such as ARDUINO, ESP32, or Raspberry Pi), and actuators with code. The course covers electronics, programming, and prototyping, enabling students to design and build devices that respond to user inputs or environmental changes. Through hands-on projects, students develop skills in creative problem-solving, hardware-software integration, and user experience design, often culminating interactive installations, robotics, or wearable technology.
