Call for Art: Black HIV Awareness

December 18, 2014

Affirmations and are pleased to announce this call for entry to artists to submit work for an exhibit honoring Black experience and promoting HIV/AIDS awareness. This exhibit will be held in the Pittmann-Puckett Gallery located inside Affirmations.

Artists are encouraged to submit entries that explore Black experiences of sexuality, pleasure, sex and sexual health as well as entries related to HIV infection, HIV stigma, living with AIDS, among other HIV/AIDS-related topics. Artists must submit at least 1 piece specific to HIV/AIDS in the Black community. Artists may submit multiple entries in any media.

Painting Commission

Title: Visions of Central Asia

Michael Drake is seeking to commission an original painting inspired by Central Asia.  While living there, several unique pieces were collected, and now we would like something of larger scale (~48"x60”) for our home.  Images of the Central Asian pieces, along with rough palette guidance, can be provided.  A blank primed canvas of appropriate size is also available.

Product/Graphic Design Intern, Product Development Intern

Videographer Needed

The Department of Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery is looking to develop a video for patients who will undergo surgery for removal of tongue cancer. The video would document what patients can expect throughout the surgical stages, including steps for preparation and recovery. Long-term, the video would be included in a study to determine whether patient outcomes improve if the video is viewed pre-surgery.

The videographer would start as soon as possible in the Winter 2015 semester. The position demands 10 hours per week, or less, per the project’s needs and the videographer’s discretion. The candidate must have prior work experience in videography. Ideally, the candidate would have experience in medical or clinical video work, or experience in documentary-style video work.

Logo Design Needed

The engineering student body recently voted to establish a new student government.  Among other things, this means that a new logo is needed, and the Engineering Student Government (ESG) is seeking students at the University of Michigan to assist in this endeavor. The logo will be used in documents, publicity, and other branded items for years to come.

Part Time/Freelance Graphic Design Opportunity

Pillar Technology is seeking a part time student graphic designer.  Most work will be remote, though the company is located in Ann Arbor.

Must have basic design skills—alignment, balance, hierarchy of images and Adobe Create Suite knowledge.  Self motivation and a good work ethic is necessary.

This is an opportunity for some real world work (not always glamorous) and money.  We pay $20.00 an hour to our student employees.

The Frankel Center for Judaic Studies is seeking an experienced Photographer for various events and projects throughout the academic year.  Projects include but are not limited to photography of:
public lectures
classroom lectures
faculty, staff, and students (portraits and group shoots)
other special departmental events
mock photos
UM campus life

Seeking individuals with the following:
passion for photography
dedication to the craft
ability to provide a story through the lens
imagination ... turning basic everyday shots into creative work

​Photos ​will be used to build upon the current Judaic Studies website, for departmental advertising and other public programming needs.  Seeking upper level undergraduate and graduate students with prior work experience in photography and digital editing.  ​Hours vary per assignment throughout the year and will require flexibility in schedule.

Immediate opening in the Oculoplastics Service of the Department of Ophthalmology for a candidate skilled in Movie Maker and Photoshop to edit surgical video clips and 3-D photographs, compile short videos, presentations, and before-and-after shots, create rough and final videos and presentations, ensure logical sequencing and smooth running of videos.
