Curriculum Vitae

Ph.D. in Informatics, Indiana University
M.S. in Computer Science, Center for Research in Mathematics
M.A. in Information Design, University of the Americas Puebla
B.S. in Computer Science, University of Yucatan

Omar Sosa Tzec is an information and interface designer fascinated by the creation of visually-oriented interactive-informational artifacts, how they create meaning, and how they impact people's everyday life. His research lies at the intersection of information design, human-computer interaction, rhetoric, semiotics, and multimodal argumentation. Within that space, Omar explores the application of theory for the analysis of such artifacts and the articulation of their compositional and experiential qualities. He is also interested in diagrammatic thinking and representations applied to knowledge transfer and design processes, sketching in UX design, symbols in graphical user interfaces, typography, and lettering.

Omar earned his Ph.D. in Informatics (concentration: human-computer interaction) from Indiana University in 2017. In his doctoral studies, Omar developed an account of delight for interactive systems and an interpretive method to aid an interaction design researcher to articulate how these systems argue during the user experience. Previously, Omar had earned an MDes in Information Design, an MS in Computer Science, and a BS in Computer Science from recognized institutions in the Mexican Republic. Throughout these studies, Omar researched hypermedia design, image processing, design methods, and interface design for small screens.

Omar's design pedagogy and practice encompass more than a decade of experience. He has taught a variety of design topics to both designers and non-designers. Such topics include human-computer interaction, visual design for user experience, information architecture, web design, and information design. Omar's practice includes projects of identity design, web design, information visualization, and institutional communication.
