Curriculum Vitae

BFA, The Pennsylvania State University

Christine Bruening is an interdisciplinary artist with a bachelor in fine arts from The Pennsylvania State University. Her work focuses on how the western canon of art influences contemporary, visual dialogue and how that thread of conversation, in turn, informs values and belief systems. These ideas often manifest in the form of a figure. The body as the lens through which to understand safety, agency, privilege and everything else that makes up a life. In more recent work, Christine incorporates technology into pieces as a means to tie a thread from the classical work that shes’s referencing to our contemporary experience of the everyday. These threads manifest either in the construction of the work, using 3d printers, or the actual experience of the piece through the use of sensors, motors, and screens.
