Jeff DeBoer (BFA 1982), an owner and vice president at Sundberg-Ferar, is spearheading a move to recognize Michigan as a design center through the establishment of the Michigan Design Council. He will be assisted by Stamps Dean Guna Nadarajan who was recently appointed a council member. A Part of the Michigan Economic Development Council, the Design Council will advise on strategies to improve the state of design and design profession in Michigan. First steps include the establishment of a design mecca” inside the city of Detroit where multidisciplinary design creatives can work, collaborate and grow businesses. Within the next year, the Design Council also intends to establish the Michigan Design Prize to recognize an individual or company for improving the human condition through great product design in Michigan.
