Stamps Gallery Director Srimoyee Mitra recently discussed the gallery’s upcoming exhibitions with Lisa Barry and Omari Rush on WEMU’s Art and Soul.

This week, Art and Soul is about the visual arts scene in Washtenaw County. 89.1 WEMU’S Lisa Barry is joined by CultureSource executive director and Chair of the Michigan Arts Council Omari Rush, and special guest Srimoyee Mitra, director of the Stamps Gallery, part of the University of Michigan Stamps School of Art and Design.

Mitra talks about how the gallery has been consolidated from three different locations to just one at 201 Division Street in downtown Ann Arbor. Mitra has been director of the gallery for the past 9 months. She explains the consolidation is intended to shift the focus of the new locations. The Stamps Gallery director says there are many different artists participating in upcoming exhibitions. She says they will be a nice balance of student artists as well as other well-known, already established artists.

There are several openings coming up this month including two brand new exhibitions. One is with Suzy Lake, a pioneer in the feminist art movement showing her work of performance photography. That opens at the Stamps Gallery on January 19th.

Another upcoming exhibit celebrates people’s history with poster art in what Mitra calls a fun, lively exhibition talking about everyday history.”
