Nikki Horowitz: “Groove” Indiegogo Campaign

Sydney plays groove

A team of U‑M filmmakers — including Stamps undergraduate student Nikki Horowitz (BFA 2016) — have just launched an Indiegogo campaign for Groove, an independent feature film about the misadventures of three NYC subway musicians.

We are a group of young filmmakers from the University of Michigan, including the Stamps School of Art & Design, who have a deep love for New York and the musicians who call the subway home. We have been working hard for over a year bringing the indie feature film, GROOVE to life — from interviewing countless buskers in the subway to casting our leads in a generously donated warehouse in Dumbo, Brooklyn, all the way to being accepted into Panavision’s New Filmmaker’s Program.

Our leads are not just actors — they are the characters. Sydney Shepherd has been busking in the subway with her band Bandits on the Run for over four years and recently finished a run on Broadway. Samuel Forrest spent years as the lead singer and guitarist of the British rock band Nine Black Alps. Sha James was born and raised in New York and is a talented musician who can regularly be seen in comedy clubs around the city.

With production starting in May, we are on our way to creating a life changing movie! Although we have already raised a large portion to to fund the project, we need your help to make the movie reach its greatest potential. With your further support we will be able to shoot at authentic Brooklyn LOCATIONS, nourish our actors with FOOD, help pay for professional MUSIC RECORDING, and legally shoot in the NEW YORK CITY SUBWAY SYSTEM.
