Tapestry of a Leader
Celibeth Donnelly (1998)
I have been working on a project that reflects my travels to Cuba. This piece is one of three featuring the Cuban poet, icon and revolutionary, Jose Martê (1853-1895) His image is everywhere on the island and in my interpretation he has a third eye, which seems fitting to me. He is beloved throughout Latin America and his poetry and wisdom are still relevant today.
This work is featured as part of Future Former: An Exhibition of Alumni Work. This exhibition honors the creative work and careers of all Stamps School alumni, creates an aspirational connection between generations of U-M artists and designers and current Stamps students, and inspires reflection during the university's Bicentennial year.
