Sculpture by its nature exists in space. It does not fear emptiness, but embraces it. Mademoiselle presents the emotion of calm serenity, facing out, having no fear of the space she occupies. This sculpture began as a block of limestone, 13x7x8in, and after considerable time, using only my arm strength with a hammer, chisels, and sandpaper, she slowly came into being.
This work is featured as part of the 2016 Alumni Exhibition: “Horror Vacui”, on display from July 19 - August 6, 2016 at the Argus II Building in Ann Arbor. Check the exhibition page for dates, times, and hours.
