La Passerella a Venezia
Samuel Knecht (MFA 1976)
I divide my work between portraiture and landscape, painting in a realist tradition. While I paint most often in oils, occasionally I work in egg tempera.
Tempera demands much craft and skill of the artist who chooses to pursue the Renaissance methods involved. This work aims at tension between the loveliness of a young woman and metaphorical chaos inspired by alleyways in Venice, Italy.
This work is featured as part of the 2016 Alumni Exhibition: “Horror Vacui”, on display from July 19 - August 6, 2016 at the Argus II Building in Ann Arbor. Check the exhibition page for dates, times, and hours.
