Have A Sit
For my IP project, I have designed a chair which reflects my sense of cultural belonging by combining sitting styles in the East and West. Sitting styles are an example of the cultural differences between the East and West. In the East, people sit on the floor emphasizing commonality versus in the West people sit at the table, emphasizing individuality. I grew up with a multicultural background taking in both Eastern and Western influences. I felt belonging in both cultures and at the same time felt at home in neither. This chair defines my ambiguous sense of belonging by merging Eastern and Western sitting cultures into a singular object.
