Ian Renstrom: Funny Farm

Funny Farm

Ian Renstrom

Funny Farm is a “stand-up drama” that features autobiographical monologues and a collection of sampled lyrics and poems* dealing with mental illness, gender, love, unfulfilled hopes and dreams, and of course, psychiatric wards. Funny Farm is both set in a mental hospital and in a patient’s mind. The scenes unfold to reveal the patient ruminating on past memories and traumas until they are finally set free from the facility.

* Sad Girl’s Howl is a cento that samples the work of Allen Ginsburg, Lana Del Rey, and Melissa Broder a.k.a. @sosadtoday
