Viewer
When you view certain art, does it affect you in an emotional way? Does some art mainly form an intellectual connection? Is there art that hits you in a visceral way, either with revulsion or elation?

Artist
Do you make art with the intent to engage viewers in a visceral way? Does your art try to connect in an intellectual way, which gets your viewers thinking more deeply about something? Have viewers reacted emotionally to what you’ve created?

The Connection

Can art elicit a real world reaction, like fight or flight? Can art open up an intellectual door, resulting in new ideas and insights about a subject or topic? Some art powerfully connects with viewers emotionally. Work•Detroit asks artists to explore the neural underpinnings of the connection between the art they create and the cognitive reception in those who encounter it.
