This course introduces the basics of textile design in the context of fine art and applied design. Students gain a basic understanding of several textile-printing and dyeing approaches for surface design, using techniques such as immersion dyeing, resist dyeing processes, pattern design, screen printing, and digital surface embellishment. Technical instruction is accompanied by an overview of historical and contemporary fiber arts and textile design, which provides a conceptual framework for the work that is to be created in this class. FREQUENCY OF OFFERING: This course is typically offered in the fall term of every academic year, though scheduling may vary according to future term circumstances.
