Winter 2022

Prerequisites: All OF THE FOLLOWING: ARTDES 260: Intro to Sculpture.

Description: As an artistic approach, digital sculpture is positioned at the intersection of traditional sculpture and the innovative technologies of 3D modeling and visual effects, like those used in film and video production. This course introduces students to the tools and techniques of digital sculpting, placing emphasis on understanding organic forms and natural environments. Students work with computer software designed to function more like sculpting with clay than constructing with blocks and planes. Related technologies such as 3D scanning and digital printing are also explored along with contextual concerns related to biomimicry, genetic modification and adaptation, and visionary depictions of evolutionary futures.

Frequency: This course is typically offered in the winter term of even-numbered years, though scheduling may vary according to future term circumstances.
