Description: We are surrounded by text — on paper and online. But what happens when words are projected on a building? Or embroidered on a quilt? Or stolen from Craigslist to make a poem? In this course, you will experiment with text in a variety of ways and will create text-based works, remediate text, and produce work that combines image and text. To support this making, we will study works that experiment with text, including language poetry, ready-mades, and conceptual writing and examine unconventional texts, such as erasure, collage, found forms, and art that combines text with images. This course will improve your ability to include text in your work, whether you are experimenting with text alone or using text with images.
