2018-19 Post-Baccalaureate Residency at the Kalamazoo Institute of Arts

The 2018-19 school year will welcome the fourth cohort to the Kirk Newman Art School at the Kalamazoo Institute of Arts for this intensive art-study program.

This nine-month residency is designed for aspiring artists seeking to grow and strengthen their art practice in a supportive community, with access to professional studio facilities and guidance.

Candidates should be college graduates preparing for a career as a professional artist or for entry into a Master’s of Fine Arts degree program. Candidates should have a deep commitment in their chosen medium and have the appropriate discipline to work independently in an open studio environment.

This position functions as both a greeter to UMMA and a retail sales clerk in the UMMA Store and will be cross-trained to perform both activities.

Gifts of Art is seeking submissions of original art drawings for individual pages in a new coloring book for adult patients and guests of University Hospitals, reflecting the theme, “I’D RATHER BE…” 

The 32 page coloring book will contain drawings submitted by various artists through this invitational call, and will be given free of charge to patients at the University of Michigan Hospitals, along with a free box of 24 crayons.

The Moldwin Prize: Art/Sci Student Residency

The Moldwin Prize is designed for an undergraduate student currently enrolled in the Penny W. Stamps School of Art & Design, the Taubman School of Architecture and Urban Planning or the School of Music, Theatre and Dance who is interested in exchange and collaboration with students engaged in research practice in an engineering lab. No previous science or engineering experience is required, although curiosity and a willingness to explore are essential!

DTX Launch Internship

DTX Launch Detroit is a highly intensive, 10-week accelerator program designed to help college students and recent graduates explore their entrepreneurial potential, while attracting and retaining talent in the city of Detroit. Launch Detroit runs from May 21 through Aug 2, 2018.

We are seeking applications from teams of college students or recent graduates aspiring to launch a technology-based or -enabled business. Applications will be taken through Friday, 6 April 2018 and will be reviewed on a first-come/first-reviewed basis - so do not delay - apply now!

Internship with Dresner Soul Studio

Dresner Soul Studio, located in the Friendship Circle Farber Center, is a studio art program and exhibition space dedicated to the creative growth and expression of adults with special needs.

We are looking for interns who are motivated to learn how to play an integral role in an environment that promotes inclusiveness and creativity, as well as how to promote a professional gallery space within a thriving arts community.

Interns who are selected will gain experience facilitating creative exploration with people with a variety of cognitive and physical disabilities, and the knowledge of how to present such work in a professional manner as well as vital experience in how a gallery functions.

Spoonflower Emerging Designer Grant

The Spoonflower Emerging Designer Grant was created to support undergraduate and graduate students in pursuit of textile and design degrees worldwide. Recipients selected on a monthly rolling basis will receive an award of Spoonflower credit to design their own digitally printed fabrics and wall media for use in shows and exhibitions.

The grant:

Allows students to create custom fabric and wall media for use in fashion shows or exhibitions.

Supports emerging student designers.

Boosts usage of digitally printed fabrics and wall media.

Increases awareness of the capabilities of digital printing.

$23,000 Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation Grant

The Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation Grant is one of the most prestigious grants available for Artists to provide financial grants to art students and to artists in the early or developmental stage of their career that is funded by the Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation. In order to apply, the applicant must be at least 18 years of age at the time of submitting their application. The Foundation provides financial assistance to artists who work in a representational style of painting, drawing, sculpting or printmaking, are in the early or developmental stage of their career, and demonstrate a commitment to making art a lifetime career.
