Our Innovative Curriculum
Our open art and design curriculum
Our program has been praised as a model for 21 century higher education in the field of art/design. Why?
Most schools are still focused around majors and media. We’ve structured our program around a way of thinking, one that you will take with you as you head out into the world, ready to tackle problems, collaborate and make your mark.
Your first years are about developing foundation skills across media, understanding how critical thinking and research methodologies apply to creative work and learning about historical/cultural contexts.
Gradually, your curriculum choices become more and more open, allowing you to concentrate across media and interests in ways that are personal to you.
Every Thursday for all four years, you are part of a class of over 700 people at our renowned Penny W. Stamps Speaker Series, and for at least three weeks (up to a year) you’ll spend life-changing time studying abroad.
Your final year at Stamps is almost entirely your own. BFA students, you have your own studio and a whole year to develop - with the help of faculty advisors - an integrative senior project of your choosing.
