Biography

As an artist, Cathy has had solo exhibits at: Olivet College, Hillsdale College, Chelsea Center for the Arts, Glen Oaks Community College, Glen Arbor Art Center, Battle Creek Fine Arts Center, Joyce Petter Gallery, UpJohn Corporate Headquarters, Krasl Art Center, Albion College, Lowell Arts Center, and Central Michigan University. She has exhibited widely in national and regional group shows.

Her work was represented in the Art of the Sleeping Bear Dunes exhibit at the Dennos Museum Center, Traverse City, in the winter 2013-14. Her paintings are included in the book from this exhibit, and also in the book Saugatuck Dunes: Artists Respond to a Freshwater Landscape, published by the Saugatuck Dunes Alliance. Cathy has received an individual artist grant from the Michigan Council for the Arts, and has been an artist-in residence at Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore.

Cathy recently completed the certificate program in Graphic Design at WCC, in order to stay up-to-date with new technology in the arts.  She has taught studio art courses at: Kendall College of Art and Design, Grand Valley State University, and Montcalm Community College. Currently she is teaching art courses at WCC and Stamps School of Art at the University of Michigan.

As an art historian, Cathy’s article, Alphonse Legros and “Death in the Pear Tree,” was published in the professional journal Kresge Art Museum Bulletin, of Michigan State University. She taught art history survey courses and 20th-C American art history at Albion College, and Baroque art history at Olivet College.  Cathy is represented by the Button-Petter Gallery in Douglas, Michigan.
