Student Art Coordinator Position

• 10 - 12 hours/week
• Preferably a second or third year art student
• Maintain and diversify Palmer Commons’ existing artwork collection
• Act as Palmer Commons liaison to build relationships within the UM art community, including students, departments, faculty, as well as Ann Arbor community resources in order to build and rotate Palmer Commons’ student art collection
• Pursue and develop exhibition opportunities that benefit artists and enrich the UM community experience at Palmer Commons
• Maintain art collection inventory, database and Art Loan Agreements
• Maintain and schedule the Palmer Chalk Wall in conjunction with the Palmer Multi-media coordinator
• Must have working knowledge of art and technical aspects of exhibiting art
• Help in marketing Palmer Commons as a desirable exhibit destination to UM art students, faculty and Ann Arbor community
• Help develop goals and objectives for the art coordinator position
• Develop a succession plan to hand down to incoming art coordinators
• Skills: Microsoft Office Suite basics, interpersonal skills, ability to work independently as well as with a group, experience with Photoshop, Dreamweaver, InDesign and other graphic design software a plus
• Position offers a flexible schedule and the opportunity to build on skills such as project management, responsibility, networking, while adding to your career resume
• Actively participate in self-assessment to determine Student Learning Outcomes

The BioSocial Methods Collaborative at the Institute for Social Research is seeking an artist to create a visually striking poster to advertise an upcoming academic conference, “Mixed Emotions : ) : An interdisciplinary discussion of theory, methods and applications.” The conference highlights research on complex human emotions, such as the “bittersweet” or “scared/excited” feelings one experiences around major life events (starting college, retiring, having a child).

This is a temporary position funded by a grant from the Lila Wallace Foundation for two years. Additional funding may be available after the first two year cycle period of the grant.
As part of the Wallace Foundation grant this position will focus on developing an increased and loyal ongoing audience for new work by contemporary writers at the Goodman. He/she will supplement new initiatives through the creation of rich content across multi-media channels and will work with members of the Goodman’s artistic and education and community engagement departments to develop new audience engagement programming.

The Midwest Community Development Organization is seeking a talented artist to participate in a ground-breaking, nationally recognized event! The National Baptist Congress of Christian Education and 30,000 of its constituents will be in Detroit, Michigan for its annual session June 21-26, 2015 at the Cobo Hall Center. During the iROCK Young Adult Explosion on Thursday, June 25 at 7p.m., we are looking for someone to paint an inspiring, family-friendly painting on a large canvas while a Christian message is being delivered.

Ideal candidates will be firmly grounded in visual design principles and the print design process with some experience in interaction design. Our custom shoes are one of a kind and unique, and each design is thought out and hand crafted specifically for the customer. We connect with our customers to understand who they are and what they are thinking so we can create a sneaker that brings their ideas to life.

There’s a 500,000-gallon steel water tower in Ann Arbor that needs a fresh coat of paint, and the city has decided to make it into a public art contest.
The city is now calling on artists and students to submit ideas for “art in the sky” that could be chosen to adorn the water tower off Washtenaw Avenue.
The contest is free to enter and open to Ann Arbor residents and students living in Ann Arbor. The deadline to enter is June 1.
The winner will receive $500 and will have his or her design placed 150 feet in the air for all to see.

The Bradford Group (Illinois) is looking for a highly talented individual interested in a full-time advertising design internship to work with a fast-paced business division at The Bradford Group. This individual will be responsible for the layout and design of promotional material and direct mail advertising, and will assist our Senior Designer on various projects as needed.
We are also looking for candidates interested in pursuing a career in the product development field who are seeking hands-on experience. The Product Development Intern will be responsible for assisting teams with concepting new products and preparing those concepts for presentation to the company. Ideal candidates should possess strong traditional artistic and illustration skills, as well as demonstrated experience using Adobe Photoshop. This is a full-time, paid internship.

MUSKET, Michigan’s student-run musical theatre organization, is searching for a costume designer for INTO THE WOODS. The show will be performed March 27-29, 2015, in the Power Center for the Performing Arts.
MUSKET is a great opportunity to design for a fully realized musical in a 1300 seat theatre. The designer will receive an extensive budget.
About INTO THE WOODS: The story follows a Baker and his wife who wish to have a child, Cinderella who wishes to attend the King’s Festival, and Jack who wishes his cow would give milk. When the Baker and his wife learn that they cannot have a child because of a Witch’s curse, the two set off on a journey to break the curse. Everyone’s wish is granted, but the consequences of their actions return to haunt them later with disastrous results.

This department works on projects as they are presented; therefore the subjects vary each term. Our goal will be to give you a general overview of conservation work and train you in as many skills as you can absorb. We will start you out with basic principles and observation of conservators doing their normal work, then add on as opportunities present themselves. We will give you projects to practice the skills you are learning. You will find that these skills are applicable in other areas of endeavor and life. Staff members are Ann Ringia and Dianna Samuelson.
