CALL FOR ARTISTS MAGICAL EVENTS: A SMALL WORKS EXHIBITION

September 11, 2014

The Seligmann Center, welcomes submissions for its upcoming exhibition, Magical Events: A Small Works Exhibition, on view November 14-January 3.  Artists are invited to submit two-dimensional and three-dimensional works of any medium. There is no width restriction, however works may not exceed 10” in height or depth, including frames and peripheral elements.  The exhibition will occupy two galleries on the Seligmann Center property: Seligmann’s Studio and Foyer Gallery, located in the converted barn and farmhouse.  Submission deadline: Friday, October 3.

Two Work Study Opportunities at the RC

Work study student needed to assist in Residential College darkroom and photography studio. Responsibilities: Maintain photographic equipment, both digital and traditional. Clean and maintain the darkroom space. Hold regular hours to assist students working in the lab. Mix chemistry for darkroom usage. Check equipment in and out to students.

Design Internships with Danmar

Founded in 1967, Danmar is a small manufacturing company specializing in both athletic and medical equipment within a focused market area. We develop ideas from from initial concept into final production.

Intern Positions available:

Product Design and Prototyping:
A very hands on position using raw materials like closed cell foams, plastics and vinyl coating.
Being able to use basic hand tools is a necessity. Taking notes on what improvements can be made on current product line and possible new products. Will be working with our product designer to set up cad/cam drawings of current products.

Website Graphics/Animation:
Taking our current Website to a better level of interaction using animation to better illustrate function of equipment and custom options available. Also creating additional website to feature new line of equipment.

The Michigan Daily is looking for videographers!

Do you want to learn how to produce videos for online distribution?
Are you interested in storytelling or journalism?

Join the Daily’s video staff! We plan to produce more videos this semester than ever before, covering hard news, arts, human interest, and more, and we need a dedicated staff to make this happen.

We don’t expect any experience with video (although experience is certainly a big plus!), just a willingness to learn and experiment!

Preferred candidates must have strong oral and written communication skills, the ability to exercise good judgment, and work independently while maintaining composure in high-stress, service-oriented office setting. Candidates with previous face-to-face customer service experience a plus. Must have working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite of applications, with good knowledge of MS Excel and Google calendar a plus. Duties include basic office support (filing, multi-line telephone system, appointment-setting, courier, etc.), as well as some event planning and setup.

PLEASE NOTE - Applicants MUST have a valid work-study award to be considered for this position AND be available during some of these specific times:

Tuesdays: 2p-5p
Wednesdays: 11:30a-5p

Art Fellowship in Mexico

SOMA offers a two-year program entirely in spanish, for training contemporary artists based on continuous exchange between young artists and established professionals through courses, workshops, one-on-one critiques and studio visits. SOMA’s faculty comprises artists, theorists, and curators with extensive experience in their fields, both nationally and internationally.

This program is for students who have already completed a bachelors degree in visual arts or related studies.
