Internships with Matthaei Botanical Gardens and Nichols Arboretum

Summer internships at UM-MBGNA offer students the opportunity to develop professional skills and experience. Project planning and development, extended learning opportunities and a field trip are all part of the Summer Internship program. These are temporary, hourly paid positions (generally 40 hours per week) and currently run from the beginning of May through the end of August each summer.

Many of the work schedules will typically include a rotation of weekends and holidays and include possible evening duty. Most positions require interns willing to work outside in summer conditions.

Interns will be expected to participate in creating and presenting a poster presentation. Interns must be able to provide their own transportation to the work-sites (Nichols Arboretum and Matthaei Botanical Gardens) or participate in carpooling with other interns to work-sites.

Challenge Detroit

Challenge Detroit’s vision is to attract individuals from across the country as well as retain talent from the city and region through a one-year fellowship program. Over the course of a year, fellows live, work, play, give and lead in Detroit. They work for top regional companies, while partnering monthly with nonprofits to address issues and opportunities facing the community. In four years, Challenge Detroit has supported the creation of over 125 jobs, generating more than $5 million in economic value to the local economy.

Qualifications:
● Applicants must have a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution, or be enrolled at an accredited institution and actively pursuing a Bachelor’s degree on at least a part-time enrollment basis with graduation completed by the time Challenge Detroit launches in September 2016.
● Must be U.S. resident or legal resident alien.
● Passionate, hard-working and innovative.

RoosRoast Coffee, Ann Arbor’s number one artisan roaster and bohemian cafe, is looking for a new multi-talented team member. Qualified candidates should have a deep love of coffee, and be able and willing to juggle multiple roles at RoosRoast- first as lead Graphic Designer, but including supporting the coffee bar, catering jobs, wholesale and more. 

Candidate should be easy to work with, very organized, with a diverse creative portfolio in signage, marketing and packaging design, and proficiency in both design software (illustrator or indesign) and “making stuff”. Writing skills, html, IT know-how, and barista skills are a plus!

Pay: $15-$17 per hour/ depending on experience

Freelance Art for Development Event

University of Michigan Development is looking for a student to paint/draw/sketch/create electronically - four separate black/white pieces of art.  The artwork must focus on:
#1 The Penny W. Stamps School of Art & Design
#2 The Taubman College of Architecture and Urban Planning
#3 & #4 Any other iconic areas on campus.
The final four pieces of artwork must be high quality scans or images, as we need the final pieces in electronic form.  The final artwork will be printed on note-cards for a guest giveaway at a University of Michigan development event.

Women Yes!  Call for art/design

The Michigan Women’s Caucus for Art is looking for women artists from Michigan to participate in Women Yes!, a poster competition and campaign that will bring art by talented women artists into AAATA buses in the Ann Arbor, Dexter, Saline, Milan and Ypsilanti areas.

Our goal is to provide exciting and thought-provoking visual artworks in poster form inside buses throughout the system. 

Women Yes! will feature work by Michigan women artists and will promote awareness of the vibrant network of artists, curators, writers and arts professionals who are members of the Women’s Caucus for Art.

Design Internships for Women!

If you’re a woman-identifying undergraduate student searching for a unique summer internship, Quality Bicycle Products (QBP) has an opportunity for you.

With distribution centers in Minnesota, Utah, Pennsylvania, and Nevada, QBP serves a network of more than 5,000 independent retailers while also being active in cycling advocacy and bicycle design. QBP is currently looking for curious and enthusiastic individuals interested in spending the summer learning and growing in its Bloomington, Minnesota, headquarters.

Five paid internship experiences will be available, one in each of the following fields: graphic design, engineering, industrial design, IT and sales.

Photography Internship with Traverse Magaizne

MyNorth Media, publishers of Traverse Magazine is looking for summer interns. Join us in celebrating the beauty of Northern Michigan while gaining experience in editorial photography. Interns will spend time shooting and exploring areas like the trails at Sleeping Bear Dunes National Park, meandering through the crowds at Cherry Fest, and getting lost in downtown Frankfort.

One of the special programs of the Original Ann Arbor Art Fair is our New Art, New Artists (NANA) College Student Mentoring Program. The goal of this program is to nurture young artists who wish to establish themselves in a professional visual arts career. Stamps Peer Advisor

Do you love helping your fellow Stamps students, know a lot about the curriculum or better yet really good at searching for solutions to problems?

Then apply to be a Stamps Peer Advisor!

8 hours/week; $10/hr to start

Eligibility:

Student at Stamps
Must be available for training sessions, paid
Available for at least two semesters
Can work 6-8 hours a week
Available for summer orientation, July 6-Aug 4

Skills/Qualities Needed:

Researching answers to problems
Referring students to staff as needed
Must be available to work between hours of 11:30 am to 1:30 pm and 4:30pm to 6pm
Communicating policies and procedures to students
Recording student questions and issues, and communicating them to advising staff
Be a liaison between students and advising staff
Meeting regularly with advising staff
Objectivity and Discretion

Duties:

  Active engagement with undergraduate students regarding curriculum and opportunities at the University.
  Responsible for maintaining Office Hours four days weekly and staying informed about changing requirements and aiding students in the progression toward their degrees.
  Coordinating training of orientation leaders leading into the summer through the creation of training modules.
  Consulting with multiple professors, the UM Libraries and the Assistant and Associate Deans of the School regarding curriculum and resources updating.
  *PLUS* Overseeing undergraduate orientation sessions during the summer months. Adapting each one to different groups including freshmen, transfer and international students which increased my awareness and ability to anticipate the needs of different groups of students.

Leapfrog Brands is seeking a versatile multimedia marketing intern to join the team of Industrial Designers, Engineers, and Marketing superstars in our West Loop Chicago studio.
