Graduate Student to manage U-M Diversity and Inclusion - Housing art programs

Diversity and Inclusion, a unit within University Housing, is seeking a graduate intern to manage art programming in The Connector.

The Connector Art Intern would manage and support various educational programs, events, and initiatives related to art. This may include organizing projects, student competitions, calls for art/performances, and showcases, and coordinating with local, professional artists to display/purchase artwork.  All of this would be designed to create inspired experiences that lead to a broader understanding of diversity and inclusion in our University community and its connection to the art world.

Freelance Animation

Merit is hiring an animation designer to assist with a film project. This is a paid opportunity for a student to gain practical experience. The work can be done remotely and does not need to be performed during normal working hours (M-F 8am - 5pm). Project will largely be executed in August and September. There are no software preferences, but final files must be digestible by Adobe Premiere (3-4 minutes of animation needed).

Skills sought:
- Create and animate characters, environments
- Apply knowledge of optimization techniques to meet memory constraints
- Make revisions based on feedback from the Director
- Meet project milestones and deadlines determined by the Director

Freelance Visual Communications Designer

The UM Center for Bioethics and Social Sciences in Medicine is seeking a freelance graphic designer with experience/interest in information/ visual communication. Under the direction of Drs. Angela Fagerlin and Aaron Scherer, the ideal candidate would perform a series of jobs related to an ongoing research project on communicating information about infectious diseases [Ebola, influenza, and Middle Eastern Respiratory Syndrome (MERS)].

Tasks will include creating a variety of visuals that communicate information about infectious diseases. Examples include heat maps to communicate the spread of a disease, risk ladders to communicate how infectious one disease is compared to another, and/or infectious disease infographics. Ideally, the candidate will be able to work with the research team over the next 2 years to create visuals and refine them based on our testing. Additional tasks will include minor graphic design work for the website that will be created at the end of the research period.

Compensation rate will depend on qualifications. Applications will be reviewed as they are received. Work will ideally begin in late-Fall or early Winter 2015.

826michigan seeks Fall interns in Ann Arbor, Ypsilanti, and Detroit

Calling for creative, hardworking individuals to join our team this fall in Ypsilanti, Ann Arbor, and Detroit!

826michigan, a local non-profit organization, is looking for interns this fall semester!  826michigan is a creative writing and tutoring center, headquartered behind the Liberty Street Robot Supply & Repair storefront (both owned and operated by 826) in Ann Arbor. We provide after-school tutoring, creative writing workshops, field trips, in-school assistance, and more to local students ages 6-18.

We are seeking individuals who are looking for a meaningful internship in the non-profit world and have an interest in creative writing, teaching, youth development, fundraising, marketing, editing, event planning, research, program evaluation, and/or business administration.

Our past Stamps School interns have found this a great learning and experience-building opportunity, and many have gone on to work in various fields including education, non-profit management, business, and more!

We are accepting applications for our Fall 2015 Internships through August 1.

Freelance Mold Making/Casting

Alumna Molly Dierks is looking for a Stamps student with experience/expertise in mold making and casting to finish a casting a project. The job is compensated at $100-$125.00 based on the time it takes to complete the casting. This should be relatively straightforward for someone adept at casting with a studio space in which to work. Ideally the project would be completed within 1-2 weeks of assignment.

If interested, please send a few images of prior cast projects (experience with flex molds a must) in a word or PDF document, and a brief outline of your experience in the same document or in the body of the email:  molly.dierks@gmail.com with CAST PROJECT as the subject.

• Have a minimum of 2 years’ experience practicing UX/IA/HCI
• Have a degree in Design, Art, Computer Science, or Engineering, or related discipline
• Have designed web applications
• Demonstrate strong working knowledge of HTML5 and CSS3
• Use Git or other version control systems
• Are comfortable with prototyping tools like Omnigraffle and Balsamiq
• Have conducted user centered metrics, testing, and research
• Are a strong communicator and team player

Videographer Wanted

The Frankel Center for Judaic Studies is seeking an experienced student Videographer to create, edit, and produce a promotional video for the Judaic Studies academic program. Video production will begin in late August/early September and include taping of Judaic Studies students providing first-hand experience testimonials as well as video clips showcasing various area around campus. The Videographer will be responsible for all pre- to post-production aspects of the video creation including filming, sound quality, lighting, editing, animation, voice-over, and uploading. A successful candidate should be able to produce an outline, write a script, and conduct interviews to produce a story.

Skills & Qualifications:
• Video Editing & Video Shooting
• Experience creating and publishing videos online
• Self-starter able to work with limited direction
• Very detail-oriented
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
• Strong time and project management skills
• Committed to the vision of promoting the Judaic Studies program

Requires a flexible schedule and hours will vary based on the availability of student interviewees. Video production will begin in late August/early September.

$25,000 Grant for the ABMA Museum Project

June 16, 2015

American Brush Makers Association (ABMA), thanks to donations from its members will fund the 100th Anniversary Museum Project with a $25,000 grant award. The award winner will be featured on the ABMA website and also in the ABMA upcoming documentary and the project itself will be showcased on display at the ABMA 100th Anniversary Convention, March 22-25, 2017 at the Hyatt Grand Cypress Resort, Orlando, FL.

Funding Details and Grant Accountability
• The award amount will be up to $25,000
• Applicants must be a 501(c)(3) nonprofit or an educational institution and must submit their IRS designation letters.
• Applicants must complete the project before December 31, 2016
• ABMA will retain rights and ownership to the project but will acknowledge grantee cooperation if the project in all of its promotion and advertising. ABMA will work cooperatively with grantee.
• A declined request simply means an applicant’s project does not best meet our criteria, or that funds are not available.
