Student Art Coordinator Position

Job Description:
• 10 - 12 hours/week
• Preferably a second or third year art student
• Maintain and diversify Palmer Commons’ existing artwork collection
• Act as Palmer Commons liaison to build relationships within the UM art community, including students, departments, faculty, as well as Ann Arbor community resources in order to build and rotate Palmer Commons’ student art collection
• Pursue and develop exhibition opportunities that benefit artists and enrich the UM community experience at Palmer Commons
• Maintain art collection inventory, database and Art Loan Agreements
• Maintain and schedule the Palmer Chalk Wall in conjunction with the Palmer Multi-media coordinator
• Must have working knowledge of art and technical aspects of exhibiting art
• Help in marketing Palmer Commons as a desirable exhibit destination to UM art students, faculty and Ann Arbor community
• Help develop goals and objectives for the art coordinator position
• Develop a succession plan to hand down to incoming art coordinators
• Skills: Microsoft Office Suite basics, interpersonal skills, ability to work independently as well as with a group, experience with Photoshop, Dreamweaver, InDesign and other graphic design software a plus
• Position offers a flexible schedule and the opportunity to build on skills such as project management, responsibility, networking, while adding to your career resume
• Actively participate in self-assessment to determine Student Learning Outcomes

Design Fellowship at the Walker

The Walker is pleased to announce that its 2015–16 Mildred Friedman Design Fellowship is now open for application.

Ideal candidates will be firmly grounded in visual design principles and the print design process with some experience in interaction design. In addition to print-based projects such as exhibition identities, wayfinding, and collateral materials, this year’s fellow will also work on select online publishing initiatives.

Freelance Art Opportunity with Sneakers by Jordana

Sneakers by Jordana is a line of custom and themed sneakers designed personally for each customer. Our custom shoes are one of a kind and unique, and each design is thought out and hand crafted specifically for the customer. We connect with our customers to understand who they are and what they are thinking so we can create a sneaker that brings their ideas to life.

We are looking for part-time artists who will be living in New York City this summer with advanced drawing skills that can help draw and color our designs.  We pay by the shoe and prices will be negotiated with each artist. ART IN THE SKY!

April 2, 2015

There’s a 500,000-gallon steel water tower in Ann Arbor that needs a fresh coat of paint, and the city has decided to make it into a public art contest.

The city is now calling on artists and students to submit ideas for “art in the sky” that could be chosen to adorn the water tower off Washtenaw Avenue.

The contest is free to enter and open to Ann Arbor residents and students living in Ann Arbor. The deadline to enter is June 1.

The winner will receive $500 and will have his or her design placed 150 feet in the air for all to see.

Advertising Design Intern, Product Development Intern

The Bradford Group (Illinois) is looking for a highly talented individual interested in a full-time advertising design internship to work with a fast-paced business division at The Bradford Group. This individual will be responsible for the layout and design of promotional material and direct mail advertising, and will assist our Senior Designer on various projects as needed.

We are also looking for candidates interested in pursuing a career in the product development field who are seeking hands-on experience. The Product Development Intern will be responsible for assisting teams with concepting new products and preparing those concepts for presentation to the company. Ideal candidates should possess strong traditional artistic and illustration skills, as well as demonstrated experience using Adobe Photoshop. This is a full-time, paid internship.

Downtown Traverse City’s Marketing & Event Planning Internship

Costume Designer for Into the Woods

MUSKET, Michigan’s student-run musical theatre organization, is searching for a costume designer for INTO THE WOODS.  The show will be performed March 27-29, 2015, in the Power Center for the Performing Arts.

MUSKET is a great opportunity to design for a fully realized musical in a 1300 seat theatre. The designer will receive an extensive budget.

About INTO THE WOODS: The story follows a Baker and his wife who wish to have a child, Cinderella who wishes to attend the King’s Festival, and Jack who wishes his cow would give milk. When the Baker and his wife learn that they cannot have a child because of a Witch’s curse, the two set off on a journey to break the curse. Everyone’s wish is granted, but the consequences of their actions return to haunt them later with disastrous results.

Internship in Archives Conservation at Bentley Historical Library

This department works on projects as they are presented; therefore the subjects vary each term.  Our goal will be to give you a general overview of conservation work and train you in as many skills as you can absorb. We will start you out with basic principles and observation of conservators doing their normal work, then add on as opportunities present themselves.  We will give you projects to practice the skills you are learning.  You will find that these skills are applicable in other areas of endeavor and life.  Staff members are Ann Ringia and Dianna Samuelson.

Internships with Studio 360

July 8, 2014

Studio 360’s internship is a hands-on experience. Interns and volunteers sit in on editorial meetings, gather research, pitch ideas, collect materials for the website, and learn a variety of tasks involved in producing a weekly program. Over the course of the term, interns and volunteers gain fundamental radio skills (including audio editing) and will assist staff mentors with producing segments for the show.

Internships Through the IAESTE Program

IAESTE (I-ess-tay) is the International Association for the Exchange of Students for Technical Experience, a global organization which maintains consultative and operational relations with the United Nations, the European Union and the Organization of American States. The organization was established in 1948 at the Imperial College in London. For more than 50 years, IAESTE has continued to grow and now includes more than 80 member countries.

Established in this country in 1950, IAESTE United States has a mission to enhance technical and professional development and to promote international understanding. This goal is achieved by partnering with technical and scientific universities and providing professional technical internships to international students.

All positions are paid and interested students would apply through IAESTE United States (www.iaesteunitedstates.org). If you are interested, please email Ms. Gina Del Tito at gdeltito@culturalvistas.org, and she will provide you with the necessary steps to apply for the listed internships. There is a $75 application fee and a $600 program fee which includes a $100 deposit that is returned at the end of the internship and after we receive all evaluation documentation. Our partner countries will need students to be nominated for these positions by March 14th, therefore we would need to have applications from qualified candidates by March 7th.

Theatre Fellowships/Internships with the Wooster Group

The Wooster Group offers a one-year, paid, full-time Fellowship to a talented individual who will work with the company in one or more of the following areas: production management, technical direction, stage management, costume maintenance and construction, lighting/electrics, sound, video, and administration.

The individual who receives a Wooster Group Fellowship will work alongside company members in a collaborative environment during development, rehearsals, and performances of new and repertory productions. Technical and production Fellows may have opportunities to work with The Wooster Group on tour or work with visiting artists at The Performing Garage.
